How do you handle cleaning after cooking?

Here’s how GON Readers responded… 38% I clean or add to the dishwasher as I go. I hardly have anything to clean after I cook. 20% I let everything soak in soapy water, and clean after dinner. 15% I let everything soak and I get to it the next day. 13% Somebody else in my family handles all of the cleaning up after dinner.  7% Please don't ask. There are cooking messes that are still on my counter or in my sink from days ago.  7% Other Other GON Reader Comments: I wash and clean up during gaps in between cooking as I go along. If needed, I'll soak the pan in some water, and eat my dinner. After dinner, I'll do the washing by hand. I do not own a dishwasher. We barely have energy to make dinner; also, it's rushed to prepare because unknown timing, and then they're hungry NOW. I get stuck with preparing and cleaning - instinct is to rinse dishes, but don't get to pots and pans. Then they have to soak. Instinct is to do before going to bed, but there are complaints it's too noisy. All frustrating. Preparation stuff cleaned as I go! Eating paraphernalia goes straight into dishwasher. Pots and pans may sit in water depending if I'm dashing out. My husband does most of the cooking (lucky me) but does not clean as he goes. I make sure food is stored and dishwasher is loaded before I go to bed. I will hand wash dishes before bed or first thing in the morning depending on energy level. I only do dishes after we have eaten. (I don't have a dishwasher.) I will let some greasy things soak before I get to them. Pots into sink and wipe down counters before eating. Hubby helps with pots. family supposed to help clear and load dishwasher. Yet somehow I always wind up cleaning more and wiping electric glass cook top afterwards. Always clean sink and empty before bed. But mysterious beings somehow leave dirty dishes in it overnight. Combo of “as I go” and let things soak…and get to it the next day I clean after we eat, but sometimes dishes sit until the next day, As retirees in a multi-generational home, the two of us handle most of the kitchen clean up. I clean as I cook and my husband unloads and reloads the dishwasher once a day. I rinse everything and do hand washing the next day, whenever my husband is ready to help! I clean up as I go. No dishwasher. Depends on how many dishes there are. If very few, they can wait until there's more…1st thing in the morning is a common time. I soak some in the sink; some I just rinse and leave on the counter. No dishwasher! Hubby cooks and I clean up after dinner (always done before we go to bed). I let everything soak until the end of the week before cleaning in the dishwasher. I live alone and only run one load of dishes per week. I do anything needing to be cleaned by hand at the same time. Most of the time, everything gets hand washed after dinner and left to dry. It depends how I feel. Some days I clean up after we eat, some days I clean up the next day. I tidy as I cook, and clean up after dinner (usually!) Depends on my evening. Sometimes I do the dishes immediately; sometimes I have other things to do and do the dishes a little later. Once in a great while, if there's only a couple, they wait until the next day. I guess I do a combo of several of the above. I try to clean and load the dishwasher as I cook. If the food is ready and I'm not done, I soak. If the dishwasher needs to run that night (I only run it when full), I finish up after dinner. If not, I often let it soak till morning and finish then. I do wash ALL my pots and pans by hand and air dry, so those often soak overnight. My husband is the cook, so I clean up after dinner. Any baked on mess soaks until the next day. We don't have a dishwasher. I keep a sink filled with soapy water while I cook, washing as I go; table dishes and the stove are all that's left after dinner.  I clean some items as I go, but others wait until after the meal.
