Other GON Reader Comments: • Before each food shopping trip, I reorganize, get rid of any questionable/expired items, and wash up shelves, door area, and drawers. • I clean a shelf or drawer as needed. Whenever any item is taken out to use, I check the expiration date. We eat our leftovers within the week the meal was cooked. • We clean out old leftovers on trash day, but don't wash down the shelves…thanks for the reminder! Need to do that! • Our fridge is emptied out completely a couple times a year. But I clean up spills when they occur. I spot clean and toss expired food weekly, the night before trash day. • Actually, my cleaning lady (who comes every two weeks) cleans out a section every visit. She consults me before throwing anything out. • We have a "job jar" where we have numerous items listed to do. Every night we take one job out and complete it...roughly every 25 days or so is when this job get done. • I do it when I need to. There's no set schedule. The fruit/vegetable drawer and cold cut drawer gets done more often than the rest. • Clean it out completely every 6 months. Weekly before trash day to toss expired food. • I deep clean every 4-6 months (used to do quarterly). I put newspaper in the vegetable drawer under paper towels to absorb smells so I know when I did it last. • I don't always empty completely, but I do wipe all shelves monthly and I use placemats as shelf liners for easier cleaning. In drawers, I use the press and hold Saran wrap and replace frequently. • If we lose power and stuff melts…then I clean it out. • Once a year, I take everything out and clean. I also clean the shelves if they get dirty. • I clean it every Sunday so I can put old food and leftovers in the trash for pick- up on Mondays. I wipe shelves out and do a quick cleaning.
