Top 10 everyday routines that can damage

your body

by Maria Gracia Join our newsletter to be notified when the newest Top Ten list is available. There are many things we can do to help ourselves and our bodies. There are also many things we often do that can harm us. These 10 everyday routines, many of us slip into, can actually cause quite a bit of damage. 1. Sitting. The human body was designed for movement. Too much sitting (2-12 hours per day) is closely linked to dozens of chronic diseases. Stand up and move around at least 5 minutes of every hour. 2. Skipping meals. If you want to lose weight, don’t skip a meal. Skipping meals will only slow down your metabolism. Why? Your brain signals the body to conserve fuel since it doesn’t know when the next meal is. Plus, your hunger pains become more intense causing you to overeat later on! 3. Not drinking enough water. Water is the number one best liquid for the human body. Water fights the aging process, makes your skin look healthier, and helps you lose weight. 4. Not cleaning your purse. More than 20% of purses carry more germs than a public toilet. Ewwwww! Whenever you enter a germy place, like a public restroom, your handbag does too. Disinfecting the outside and inside contents of your purse will eradicate the yucky bacteria. 5. Not getting enough sleep. Sleeping less than five to six hours a night drastically affects your health. If you have trouble sleeping, contact your doctor or a sleep specialist to learn how to catch more Zzzzzzzs. 6. Not flossing. Besides preventing gum disease, flossing prevents cardio-vascular disease. 7. Blow drying your hair every day. Blow drying your hair daily, especially if you’re using the hot setting, damages hair tips and dries out hair making it look frizzy and unhealthy. Allow your hair to dry on its own or blow dry on a cooler temperature. 8. Drinking too much diet soda. Diet soda is full of artificial sweeteners and chemicals that are harmful to your body and your teeth. These chemicals are linked to other chronic illnesses and in some cases actually cause weight gain. 9. Wearing flip flops for distance walking. Only wear flip flops on the pool deck. They offer no arch support, heel or knee cushioning, or shock absorption. If you’re “going places,” walking shoes or sandals are a much better option. 10. Consuming too much sugar. Americans consume more sugar now than 20 years ago. Too much sugar leads to weight gain as well as Type 2 diabetes. Avoid it as much as possible. Back to Top Ten Index
