Store pet food to keep freshness in and pests

out

Join our newsletter to be notified when the newest Reader Organizing Tip is available. If you have multiple pets (or even one big dog!) chances are you buy large pound bags of dog or cat food for savings and convenience, like I do. Here’s how to best store your pet food to keep freshness in and pests, such as ants and moths, out. Buy a large, well-constructed container with a lid that is tight-fitting but also easy to open. If you pour the food directly into the container, be sure to wash the container when you change to a new bag, as you would for cereal, pasta, etc. Store the container close to where you feed your pet, such as a pantry or closet. Some experts recommend that you put the bag itself directly into the container. Once the bag is opened, seal the bag itself with a large clip. This will provide added freshness and ensure you have all the information needed in case of a recall. Submitted by Judy from Hartford, CT Back to Reader Organizing Tips Index
