Organize your health…10 ways for preventing

bad breath

by Maria Gracia Join our newsletter to be notified when the newest Organizing Quick Tip is available. Bad breath is caused by the bacteria that gathers around the pockets of your teeth. Eventually these bacteria lead to bad breath and other serious health issues like gum disease. Here are ten ways you can prevent it... 1. Go to the dentist: Schedule and go to two dental visits per year for a thorough cleaning and check-up. 2. Brush frequently: Brush your teeth at least two times per day, and hit the spots where bacteria tend to grow…teeth, gums, the roof of your mouth, your tongue, and especially the very back of the tongue. 3. Brush long enough: No rushing when you’re brushing your teeth. Set a timer and brush for a full two minutes. 4. Floss properly: I know…flossing is a big time-consuming pain. Do it anyway…at least once a day, preferably towards the end of the day after your last meal. The floss should be wrapped around the tooth while making a gentle sawing motion. 5. Chew: Chewing increases saliva production. Chew sugarless gum after meals (if you can’t brush) to freshen your breath. 6. Eat raw veggies and fruit: Eating foods like apples, carrots, celery, and other plant-based foods, helps scrape plaque build-up, fights bacteria, and are nutritious choices in general. 7. Drink water: I’m not talking about a little bit of water, but rather 6 to 8 glasses. Hydrate throughout the day. Carry a water bottle around with you. 8. No smoking: Enough said. 9. Eat plain (no added sugars) probiotic yogurt: According to WebMD, “the active bacteria in yogurt, specifically Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus, may have a beneficial effect on odor- causing bacteria in the mouth.” 10. See your doctor: When all else fails, go see your doctor. Sometimes bad breath is a symptom of a bigger medical condition like: uncontrolled diabetes, strep throat, sinus infections, and other body aliments. Back to Organizing Quick Tips Index
