GON Organizing for Men
Organizing for Men Guys…Here’s How To Organize Your Wardrobe While organizing your wardrobe may not be on your Top 10 list of things you’d love to do, getting your clothes in order so you can find them can make life less nuts. Here are some ideas... 1. Divide in sections: When it comes to your closet, hang super-dressy clothes in one section (tuxedos), business clothes in the next (suits), casual dressy after that (clothes you’d wear out on a date), and super-casual in the fourth section (jeans). Your dressiest clothes should be the most difficult to access, unless you wear tuxedos every day. Note: Jeans can also be folded over once and placed in a dresser drawer if you have the available dresser space. 2. In your dresser: Designate drawers for specific purposes. For instance, in the top drawer, store underwear and undershirts. Next drawer down? Socks. Dressy socks on one side, casual in the middle, sports socks on the opposite side. Get drawer dividers if you need help keeping them separated. Next? PJs and sweats. Next? T-shirts and shorts. If you have a fifth drawer...that’s where your sweaters go (never hang sweaters...they’ll pull out of shape.) If you don’t have the luxury of all these drawers, use shelves in the closet for some of these…you can purchase closet shelf dividers to help if you’d like. You may have to negotiate with your wife or girlfriend for extra space...it’s worth it. You need space too. 3. Ties on a tie hanger...always. 4. Shoes on a shoe rack...dressier shoes on the top rack; less dressy on the bottom. 5. Get yourself a valet for the top of your dresser. You’ll need one with compartments to hold your watch, wallet, keys, cuff links, wedding ring and cell phone. In fact, many valets these days double as a charging station. 6. Use matching hangers. Use hangers that match for the most consistent look. And no wire hangers. Donate those to your local dry cleaner.
