My daughter wrote this article, specifically geared towards organizing for
kids. I’m so proud of her! Here goes…I didn’t edit one word of it! Feel free to
share it with your kids/grandkids…
Hey! We all know organizing and cleaning your room is hard sometimes.
Every time you’re doing something fun, it seems as if one of your parents
comes and asks you to clean something. I’m going to give you 10 tips on
how to clean your room without it being a BIG pain!
1.
Try putting on your favorite show or listen to your favorite music.
If you have something in the background that you are interested in, it
might help you to not be so bored…and it makes the time go faster.
2.
Break cleaning your room into parts. Depending on how messy your
room is, you can clean in 10 to 15 minute blocks. After the time is over,
you can do something else for a few minutes, and then get back to
cleaning. Or, maybe you worked so hard the first time around that your
room is already clean!
3.
You have to actually get up and clean. You can’t sit back and imagine
that your room is getting cleaned. Believe me, I've been there. It doesn’t
work!
4.
Think when you clean. Cleaning your room can be a way to clear your
mind or maybe think about your day. You can think about your crush or
just think about something fun…like being at the beach. Thinking can
help you get your mind off of what you’re doing. Just don't forget to
clean!
5.
Think about what you can do when you’re done cleaning!
Sometimes, all we can think about is how boring cleaning our room is
going to be. Like UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! But, try to think about
what you can do afterwards, such as hanging out with a friend,
watching TV, going on Instagram, or playing a game. This way, you can
look forward to doing something fun.
6.
Make a deal with your parents! Maybe your parents will take you
somewhere when you’re done. Maybe you can go for ice cream or
frozen yogurt. Maybe you want to go shopping. In that case, you can
also ask them for some money. But that’s unlikely. Still, it doesn’t hurt to
ask!
7.
Put things away when you take them out. I’m guilty of not doing
this…which makes it harder to clean. When you’re done playing with
something, put it away before getting anything else. I really should
follow my own advice!
8.
Speed clean! Clean your room as fast as possible. Run from one
corner to another! Put that book away! Roll those headphones up! GO,
GO, GO! FASTER, FASTER, FASTER!!! Just remember, it actually has
to look good. Don't just put everything you own under the bed. If you
do, you may get grounded.
9.
Don’t complain. I know this can be really hard, but don’t complain.
Just do it. Also, your parents will be extra happy with you for not
complaining. After you’re done, everyone is happy and not in a bad
mood.
10.
Talk to someone on the phone. You can clean and talk to one of your
friends on the phone. Just use the hands-free option. It can really take
your mind off the job. I enjoy Facetiming or calling my friends when I
have to clean or do any work. Sometimes, we’re both cleaning our
rooms together at the same time!
