3 ways to get the kids

Many kids are home spending oodles of time in front of the TV, phone, or another electronic device. That means there is ample spare time to get them into the organizing game. The more organized they are now, the more organized they will be later. • Make an organizing date with your kids. Tell the kids that at 10:15 a.m. every day (or whatever time works for you) that everybody is going to meet in a central location. At that time, direct each child to a specific location (a closet shelf, a dresser drawer, the floor of the toy room, etc.) and have them “pick up and put away” for 10 minutes. Set a timer…so they know there is an end in sight for this project. • Allow them to earn a reward. Prizes are fun at any age. Give your kids an organizing project to accomplish, like cleaning out two drawers of their dresser. Then, give them a prize for doing it…maybe they choose from a basket of inexpensive goodies (a prize box), or they get to choose tonight’s family movie, or maybe “money talks” and they get a dollar for their piggy bank. • Get them to give. Have each of your kids fill a donation bag with clothing and/or other items they’re no longer using. Then drive together to the donation center together. Do something fun afterwards…a visit to a park to feed the ducks or to go for a hike, perhaps?) to celebrate their kind hearts!
