____ Jan 1
New Year’s Day. Name something you’ve been meaning to
do for quite some time now. Today, do a tiny part of that
something to get it started. Also, say goodbye to old grudges
that are weighing you down.
____ Jan 2
Donate at least one clothing item that you never wear.
____ Jan 3
Get your paper filing system in order once and for all, both to
reduce paper clutter and to give you the ability to find what
you need when you need it. My Oh-So-Organized Filing
System will give you the organized system you need.
____ Jan 4
Return or exchange a gift you received that you don’t like or
isn’t going to work for your current needs.
____ Jan 5
Make a folder for incoming tax paperwork. Any
company/organization you work for will be sending out that
paperwork this month. Some will require you to download
this information from their web site, so keep an eye out for
tax-related emails/notifications.
____ Jan 6
Begin taking down and stowing your Christmas/holiday
decorations.
.____ Jan 7
Begin reading a new book. This month, for my monthly book
club, I’m reading Big Lies in a Small Town.
____ Jan 8
Buy or make greeting cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and
such. When you want to mail out a card, you won’t have to
run to the store to get one each time. You’ll have them easily
on hand.
____ Jan 9
Declutter the area under your kitchen sink.
____ Jan 10
Houseplant Appreciation Day. Give some tender loving
care to a houseplant you already own. Does it need to be
trimmed, fed, or watered?
____ Jan 11
Replenish your first aid kit/supplies at home and in your
vehicles.
____ Jan 12
Do you have a stain on your carpet? Use today to spot-clean
it. Also, today is a good day to plan a date on your calendar
for getting your rug cleaned by the professionals (make an
appointment) or for doing it yourself.
____ Jan 13
Do you have costume jewelry you never wear? Go through
your stash and donate some of it to a local charity.
____ Jan 14
Trade in plastic storage containers for Pyrex. When you
have leftovers, you can heat them up right in the glass
bowls.
____ Jan 15
Are all of your holiday decorations put away? If not, get the
last of them into storage, except for perhaps any “winter
themed” items.
____ Jan 16
Clean the inside of the washing machine, especially around
the basin’s top rim and any detergent/softener compartments
that have become gunked up.
____ Jan 17
Get rid of old hair products, lotions, and other toiletries you
never use. Doing so will free up space in your bathroom
cabinet for the items you do use.
____ Jan 18
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Support a Black-owned
business in your local community or online.
____ Jan 19
National Popcorn Day. Try a new variety of popcorn. Also,
be sure your popcorn maker is clean and in good working
condition. The one in my house is not popping like it used to;
we’re replacing ours today.
____ Jan 20
Clean out one of your kitchen cabinets. Do you have an
overload of dishes, glasses, mugs, etc. that you never use?
Donate them so someone else can benefit.
____ Jan 21
Do something to organize your memories today. Either make
a scrapbook page, organize some old printed photos, or
transfer important photos from your cell phone to a photo
storage service for safe-keeping.
____ Jan 22
Find a new 5-ingredient or less recipe and give it a whirl
today. If you like it, share the recipe with your family and
friends on social media.
____ Jan 23
Get rid of spices you haven’t touched in a year or more.
____ Jan 24
Thinking about repainting a room? Research paint colors.
____ Jan 25
Re-organize/tidy office supplies, both at home and at work.
____ Jan 26
Inspect and change your furnace filter if needed.
____ Jan 27
Did you set New Year’s resolutions earlier this month? If so,
how are you doing with them? If you’re still on track, great! If
not, it’s OK. Today is a great day for a restart.
____ Jan 28
Update your resume, even if you’re not currently seeking
new employment. It’s good to have this document up to date.
____ Jan 29
National Puzzle Day. When was the last time you sat down
and put together a jigsaw puzzle? Doing so has many
benefits such as improving your problem-solving ability,
enhancing short-term memory, and helping you work on
spatial reasoning. Lay out the pieces on a table or puzzle
mat so you can work on it a little bit each day until it’s done.
____ Jan 30
Handwrite a short note to someone you appreciate and mail
it to them.
____ Jan 31
Decorate for Valentine’s Day and begin celebrating the
season of love.
