by Maria Gracia My NEW May Organizing Checklist provides an organizing TO DO for every day of the month… Join our newsletter to be notified when the newest Monthly Organizing Checklist is available. For a PRINTABLE VERSION, click here __ May 1 Happy May Day. Pick or buy a bouquet of flowers for yourself…and give a bunch to a family member, neighbor, friend, or co-worker. __ May 2 Clean the oven range hood vent…the outside of it and the filter. If there are sticky, greasy bits, try using a solution of one part white distilled vinegar to one part water. You’ll probably need to use a scrub brush. __ May 3 Launder or replace the shower curtain liner if needed. (Many can be tossed in the washing machine in cold water on delicate…and then hung to dry when the cycle is complete.) __ May 4 Donate winter coats and accessories that you never wore this past winter. __ May 5 Trim plants in your garden. __ May 6 Reorganize a kitchen cabinet. __ May 7 Sort through footwear. Can some of it be given away to a charitable organization? __ May 8 Get rid of old towels that have holes or that have frayed. Before tossing them, check with your local Humane Society to see if they can use them for pet bedding. Buy new absorbant towels for your home if necessary. __ May 9 Lost Sock Memorial Day. It’s time to bid a fond farewell to all of those single socks you’re holding onto. __ May 10 Upload some of the photos from your phone to The Cloud to free up some space on your phone. __ May 11 Insert old printed photos into a photo album or photo box. __ May 12 Donate calculators you never use to a school or local thrift shop. You can likely do most of your calculations using your phone’s calculator app. If someone in your family has a scientific calculator they used for chemistry and no longer need, there is definitely a student that is going to be needing one. Check with your local high school; maybe they can give that calculator a good home. __ May 13 If you’re crafty, you can transform broken crayons into many items, including new crayons! Google “muffin tin crayons” for a fun project. If you have no use for those crayons and you’re not the artistic type, donate them to a daycare center. __ May 14 Mother’s Day. Show your appreciation for all the mothers and the mothers-at-heart who are caring and kind, including yourself. __ May 15 Do you have a whole bunch of email saved up in a digital folder that you never, ever look at? Perhaps the day to delete them is today? __ May 16 Tidy up a closet that’s beginning to look disshelved. __ May 17 Recycle old magazines that you’re storing, but that you never look at. If they meet the necessary collector’s criteria, sell them to an antique shop. __ May 18 Choose three books to pass onto friends. Tell them that when they’re done reading them, they can pass them on to other friends (rather than giving them back to you.) __ May 19 Weed out costume jewelry you never wear. __ May 20 Sort through and get rid of hair accessories you never use. __ May 21 Do you have a gown just hanging in your closet gathering dust that you’re unlikely to ever wear again? Donate it. If it’s a gown that belongs to one of your teenagers, see if that teen is willing to part with it. Most of the time, homecoming and prom dresses are worn once and never worn again. There are certainly many teens out there who would love to wear that gown for an upcoming dance or prom. __ May 22 Weed out 5 folders in your home filing cabinet; and 5 more in your office filing cabinet if applicable. __ May 23 World Turtle Day. This day celebrates turtles and tortoises and encourages human action to help them survive and thrive. When you go to the beach, leave only footprints; and no plastic. Don’t disturb nesting turtles. Stay alert when boating so as not to injure a turtle. Taking a turtle from its natural habitat and declaring it a pet is frowned upon at minimum, and may even be illegal where you live. __ May 24 Decline an invitation or club meeting that you’re really not interested in attending/participating in. __ May 25 Volunteer for a cause that makes your heart happy. You can choose to give an hour of your time, or a lot more if you so choose. __ May 26 Get your outdoor grill clean and ready for barbecue season. Have the propane tank filled if applicable. Be sure you have the tools and accessories you need for grilling out…and always practice safety. __ May 27 If you eat outdoors in your back yard during the summer, be sure you have trays to make transporting food easier. __ May 28 Go to the ball park and enjoy a game…a professional baseball team or just a local one in your neighborhood. __ May 29 Memorial Day (USA). This special day honors America's military men and women who gave their lives in service and to protect our freedom. Do something to honor them. Decorate a soldier’s grave. Visit a Memorial Day service. Fly the U.S. flag at half staff until noon. __ May 30 Stock up on sunscreen. Be sure whatever you have from last year is not expired. It will not be effective if it’s past its prime. __ May 31 Be sure you have a good pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes. I always keep a pair in my vehicle and another in my purse. Back to Monthly Organizing Checklists Index
