GON Organizing Checklist
Monthly Organizing Checklist March 2019 Ahhh...spring…the season of renewal is the perfect time to get organized! Our NEW March Organizing Checklist is ready and willing to help! Join our newsletter to be notified when the newest checklist is available. For a PRINTABLE VERSION, click here ____ Mar 1 Delete any apps on your phone that you’re not using. This will help clear up space and memory to use for apps that are more important to you. ____ Mar 2 Wipe down all door knobs and door handles in your home. Using an antibacterial wipe is a quick and easy way to tackle this job. ____ Mar 3 Try out a new recipe that you haven’t tried before. It’s easy to fall into the habit of making the same recipes over and over again. Mix it up a little and experiment with some new dishes. ____ Mar 4 Freshen up furniture with fabric or linen spray. Misting your couch cushions every now and then really does help to keep not only your furniture but also your rooms smelling clean and fresh. ____ Mar 5 Pancake Tuesday. Pancake Tuesday (not that we need an excuse to eat pancakes!) always falls forty-seven days before Easter. Traditionally, Christian families prepare to fast at this time for 47 days…and use use up ingredients in their kitchen prior to Ash Wednesday…the beginning of Lent. Whether or not you follow religious rituals this day, why not make pancakes for supper anyway? It’s certainly an easy, fast dinner that you’ll likely get no complaints over! ____ Mar 6 Ash Wednesday. Why not give up a bad habit or start a new good habit today? ____ Mar 7 Designate a donation box. Once a day, try to find one item that you no longer want or need and put it into the box. At the end of 30 days, take the box to a donation center. You will not only be decluttering, but will also be giving someone else a chance to use the things they may not have the means to purchase at full price. ____ Mar 8 Pick one cupboard in your kitchen and completely clean it out. Take all Items out, thoroughly wipe down the shelves, and then go through everything that you pulled out. Get rid of anything that you no longer use and then reorganize the inside of the cupboard. ____ Mar 9 Spring FORWARD by one hour before you go to bed if changing clocks is applicable in your area. Daylight Savings Time Begins at 2 a.m. tomorrow. ____Mar 10 Replace all toothbrushes or toothbrush heads in the house. It’s always a good idea to replace toothbrushes on a regular basis, especially after you’ve been ill. ____ Mar 11 Purchase new sponges for the kitchen. While they are a great cleaning tool, sponges collect bacteria and odors fairly quickly. Replace your sponges with new ones to help keep surfaces cleaner. ____ Mar 12 Purchase fabric shopping bags if you haven’t already. Fabric bags really are more durable than plastic and hold a lot more items than their plastic counterparts. Take them with you whenever you shop to significantly cut down on the amount of plastic bags that tend to pile up in your home. ____ Mar 13 Wipe down all window sills in the house. ____ Mar 14 Check the fridge for any forgotten items that may be past their yummy stage. The worst time to find old, forgotten leftovers is AFTER they have started to go bad. Nobody wants to open that present. ____ Mar 15 Do a sweep of your medicine cabinet and discard expired medications. Replace, if necessary, so they’re available when you will need them next. ____ Mar 16 Run your car through the car wash. Even an old beat up vehicle looks better after it has been drenched with soap and hot water. No matter what you drive, show it a little love by cleaning it up. ____ Mar 17 St. Patrick’s Day. Even if you are not even a tad Irish, today is a great day to pretend that you are. Have some corned beef, drink a green beverage, and look for leprechauns. ____ Mar 18 Call a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Even though life gets busy, it is so important to keep connected with people. Call up a friend that you haven’t spoken to in a while just to check in and get life updates. ____ Mar 19 Go through your email and unsubscribe from any spam that may have made its way into your inbox. At the same time, move any mass mailings into your junk box to help cut down on unwanted emails. ____ Mar 20 First Day of Spring. Check your closet. If you have winter items that you haven’t worn at all since winter started, odds are you never will again. Pull these items out of your closet and donate them to someone who will ____ Mar 21 Treat yourself to your guilty pleasure. Whether it’s chocolate, a latte, or a fresh danish, allow yourself to indulge a little. We all deserve a little treat every now and then. ____ Mar 22 Check your shower curtain liner. Is it looking less than happy? Curtain liners are relatively inexpensive and new ones can make the interior of your shower look revived. ____ Mar 23 Take any blankets and comforters off your bed and launder them. The time may be now to switch to lighter blankets if that’s what you normally do this time of year. ____ Mar 24 When is the last time you looked under your stove? Chances are, this is not a daily occurrence and as a result a LOT of dirt and food can end under there. Pull the lower drawer out and vacuum and clean as best you can underneath the stove. You may be surprised at what is living under there. ____ Mar 25 Check the freezer for any food items that may be too freezer burned to eat or that may just have been in the freezer for way too long. ____ Mar 26 Clear off all unnecessary paper off the surface of your refrigerator and bulletin board. ____ Mar 27 Go through your phone contacts and delete any contacts that you no longer need or want. There is no reason to save numbers that you are never going to use. ____ Mar 28 Clean the screens of any phones and electronic devices in your home. With the amount of time that we can spend on these, it is no small wonder that they can show obvious signs of use. ____ Mar 29 Clean the INSIDES of your washing machine and dishwasher. ____ Mar 30 Go through any DVDS and CDs that you may have lying around the house and get rid of any that you know you will no longer use. ____ Mar 31 Go on a paper purge and recycle any unnecessary paper documents or fliers you may have lying around the house. Get in the habit of immediately recycling any unwanted paper that comes into your house before it has a chance to multiply.
