Monthly Organizing Checklist March 2020 Our March Organizing Checklist provides an organizing TO DO for every day of the month Join our newsletter to be notified when the newest checklist is available. For a PRINTABLE VERSION, click here ____ Mar 1 Gather tax documents and make an appointment with your accountant or login to your tax preparation software and start getting your taxes done. Don't forget receipts and any other supporting documents. ____ Mar 2 Toss spoiled or expired food from the fridge. Wipe out the veggie bins and shelves. ____ Mar 3 Declutter any kitchen cabinets and drawers that are overstuffed. ____ Mar 4 Recycle unused plastic containers and utensils to free up space. ____ Mar 5 Clean or replace all air filters after running your heater all winter. Clean the dust out of your heating vents. ____ Mar 6 Get your flowers. Potted pink tulips, yellow daffodils, purple irises and white lilies are perfect choices for spring and soon you'll be able to plant them in your garden. ____ Mar 7 Set your clock FORWARD one hour before you go to bed TONIGHT if your location observes switching time for Daylight Saving Time. ____ Mar 8 Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 a.m. Wash your car. Deep clean your tires and rims to remove caked-on dirt and embedded rock salt. ____ Mar 9 Sort your DVD collection. Find cases for loose discs and get DVD put into them. ____Mar 10 Rearrange furniture. Try a new living room set up for the upcoming season. When you move a furniture item, sweep or vacuum under it. ____ Mar 11 Toss ratty winter wear. Store the keepers in lidded bins in your garage, attic, etc. ____ Mar 12 Switch out snow tires/chains for all weather tires. Get them rotated and air them up at the same time. Store the snow tires/chains in your garage. ____ Mar 13 Dry clean the winter coats you're keeping. Hang them in your coat closet and rotate them to the back. ____ Mar 14 Begin de-winterizing your windows and doors. Remove plastic insulating film and heavy curtains. Replace with sheer material. ____ Mar 15 Get carpets cleaned. Winter's wet footsteps leave a lot of moisture and odor. After cleaning, let the carpeting dry while you and your family spend the day out somewhere fun. ____ Mar 16 Clear old recordings from your DVR list. Set a few recordings for new shows you want to see. ____ Mar 17 St. Patrick’s Day. Check the batteries in the smoke detectors. Replace them if needed. Vacuum the dust out of each detector using your vacuum's attachment. Too much dust can cause a false alarm. ____ Mar 18 Wash your bedding. Take this opportunity to store heavy winter bedding in lidded bins and bring out the lighter blankets and sheets for warmer weather. ____ Mar 19 First Day of Spring. Take out any winter clothing items that haven't been worn all season and donate them. Rotate clothes so warmer attire is easy to see. ____ Mar 20 Give your bathrooms a deep clean. Take the time to clean behind the toilet, under the bottles in the shower, and around the light fixtures. ____ Mar 21 Check under your bed. Pull everything out that has found its way under there and put it where it goes, tossing any trash. Dust/vacuum under your bed. ____ Mar 22 Spend some time decluttering kids' rooms. Bag up any broken or giveaway items and get them out of the house. Gather the kids' winter boots and extra blankets to store until next season. ____ Mar 23 Bring out the bird feeders. Fill each one and enjoy watching the birds feed at the window while sipping your morning coffee. ____ Mar 24 Start outdoor exercise. If it's warm where you live, go for your first walk of the season. ____ Mar 25 Change curtains, drapes, and throw rugs/pillows. Take these heavier winter items to the laundry to be washed and replace them with lighter and brighter materials to reflect springtime! ____ Mar 26 Clean windows and window tracks with white vinegar to remove moisture and mold. Finish with a dry towel, then just toss that towel in the washing machine. ____ Mar 27 Declutter computer files. Remove old files and photos that you don't need. Run a disc clean-up program to remove junk files to free up space on your hard drive. ____ Mar 28 Renew your anti-virus software for all computers. This should be done every year and is important for protecting your devices. ____ Mar 29 Paint. "Paint? Sure do. I paint the shed every spring." (Walter Matthau in Grumpy Old Men,1993.) Give your home a splash of spring color on an accent wall, or brighten up a space by painting the trim. ____ Mar 30 Get ready for Easter which falls on Sunday, April 12thi this year. Decorate your home with artistic Easter eggs. Place fresh cut flowers in a vase on your kitchen table. Make reservations for Easter dinner or send out invites for your dinner party. Plan outfits early. If you need to buy new clothes, get that done now. ____ Mar 31 Make sure your gardening tools are in good working order. Replace any needed bolts and screws. Toss out anything that is rusty. Get power tools professionally serviced.
