This month’s theme is:
Appreciation
A rainy, cold day is not generally something we appreciate. Most of us think
to ourselves, “Ugh…the sun isn’t out…it’s dreary out there…it’s damp, wet,
and cold.” I’m not a fan of these types of days. Still, I find that if I focus on
the beauties hidden within, I can even appreciate an inclement weather
day. I focus on the fact that the heat is on at home where it’s nice and cozy.
I might whip up a hot batch of soup to savor. Sometimes it’s fun to wear a
new pair of boots or fuzzy socks this time of year. Sometimes, to find that
appreciation within us, we have to will our minds away from the negatives
and focus on the positives. This month’s theme is “Appreciation” and it’s a
great word to zone in on this time of Thanksgiving. Here are your three mini
challenges for the month, all based on appreciation.
___
Every day of this month, post about someone, someplace, or
something that you appreciate: Think about what you appreciate and
post a few words on your social media page about those thoughts of
gratitude. Include a photo if you’d like as well. This daily exercise will force
your mind to focus on appreciating your blessings. If you’re not a social
media type of person, write in a journal instead.
___
Write 4 letters of appreciation, one for each week of November:
Write a letter to someone who you truly appreciate and tell them why.
Handwrite it if you could, or type up a note, print it, and tuck it into a
greeting card. Mail it out. Your note is sure to be the highlight of each
recipient!
___
Gather used, but useful, items that you’re no longer using/loving
and donate them: Donating what you’re no longer using is a way of
showing appreciation. Rather than tossing perfectly good things away
(clothing, outerwear, appliances, toys, etc.), you’re appreciating their worth
enough to give them to someone else who can make better use of them.
You’re also showing an appreciation for the environment.
