Organizing Challenges Mini Organizing Challenges: May For each week of May, our mini challenges will be focused on “Organizing Behind Closed Doors and in Closed Drawers.” It’s important, before you organize the contents of your closets, drawer, cabinets, etc. that you first weed out the clutter (anything you don’t need, don’t want, doesn’t fit, is too damaged to repair, etc.) Here goes… Week 1 (May 2 - May 8) ____ Organize your bath, hand, and face towels. Stack so the largest towels are at the bottom of the pile, medium towels on top of those, and face towels are on the top of the “towel tower.” Keep sets together. ____ Organize your bed linens. Store sets inside the matching pillowcases. ____ Organize your bathroom medicine cabinet. Safely dispose of anything expired or no longer needed. Corral like-items. Week 2 (May 9 - May 15) ____ Organize your coat closet. Each family members’ coats and jackets should be in his or her own section. Be sure heavy coats are on sturdy hangers. ____ Organize your shoes. Each family members shoes, sneakers, etc. should be in his or her own section. Consider using a shoe rack to double or triple storage space. ____ Organize sock drawers. Discard socks without mates…or use those singles as dusting rags. Week 3 (May 16 - May 22) ____ Organize fabric tablecloths, cloth napkins, and table runners. Be sure they’re all in one area and that all sets are together. ____ Organize jewelry in jewelry boxes/cabinets. Use modular organizers with trays and inserts to sort. ____ Organize kitchen cabinets so everyday essentials are within easy reach. Week 4: (May 23 - May 29) ____ Do you have an overload of Tupperware or other storage containers. Weed out first. Then organize the rest by size and shape. Get rid of storage containers or lids that don’t have a matching top or bottom. ____ Organize under the kitchen sink, using dollar-store type containers to keep similar cleaners, etc. together. Try not to keep an overload of cleaners. In mine, there is dish soap, dishwasher tabs, all-purpose cleaner, window cleaner, a few specialty cleaners (like for copper or our glass stove top), and some cleaning tools (a toothbrush for getting into tiny crevices, some kitchen sponges, etc.) ____ Organize a bedroom dresser drawer…or two…or three. Or a bedroom closet rod/shelf…or two…or three.
