Organizing Challenges Mini Organizing Challenges: July For each week of July, our mini challenges will be focused on “Everyday Activities That Can Be Done Outside” Here goes… Week 1 (Jun 27 - July 3) ____ Take your work outdoors. Whether you have to respond to email, write a letter, get a report done…whatever it is that you can do on your laptop, bring it outdoors. Try your backyard, a park, or an outdoor cafe. All the better if you can work somewhere where you have WIFI access. ____ Read a book. I don’t know about you, but for me, there is something special about reading a book outside…on my patio, in the park, or on the beach. It may be that my indoor chores aren’t nudging me as much when I’m outdoors and, therefore, I take more time to relax and enjoy. ____ Wash your pet. It’s a lot less cleanup if you can give your pet a bath in your backyard, versus the indoor bathtub. Week 2 (Jul 4 - 10) ____ Celebrate the 4th of July. Whether your area is hosting fireworks or not this summer, do something special to celebrate Independence Day. Consider a family barbecue or host a few friends, make a red, white and blue craft while sitting on your patio, fly the American flag, and/or make some festive cupcakes and bring them along for an outdoor picnic. ____ Journal. Bring your journal to a park, along with a few of your favorite pens. Then journal your hopes, dreams, goals, blessings, ideas, and/or aspirations. ____ Take an outdoor class. Look for classes being held outdoors this summer…some gyms may be offering outdoor yoga, some gardening centers may be offering flower arranging, etc. Week 3 (Jul 11 - 17) ____ Watch a movie. Sure…you can do this outdoors too. Bring your own projector and screen outside, bring your laptop outside and watch a Netflix flick, or head to a local drive-in. ____ Start…and complete…a craft. This can range from rock painting, to embroidery, to pottery. All of these can be created outside in the fresh air. ____ Cook and eat outside. Learn how to make something on the grill that you’ve never made before. Then, enjoy it outside with your family. Alternately, order take-out and eat that outside. Week 4: (Jul 18 - 24) ____ Clean out the garage. OK, this is not “all the way” outside, but keep the garage door open and get your garage decluttered and organized. ____ Call a friend. Sure, you can call a friend indoors, but why not sit outside and talk. Enjoy a lemonade at the same time. Consider a video call so you can see your friend too! ____ Host a garage sale. Some cities are allowing it. Just keep safe social distancing and cleanliness in mind for you and your customers. Alternately, sit outside with your laptop and post some items on social media that you would normally sell at a live garage sale, along with a photo, description and price. Have the person pay you virtually with a service like Pay Pal…and then offer curbside pick up. Week 4: (Jul 25 - 31) ____ Get any outdoor TO DOs done. Perhaps you can sweep the walkway, clean out the trash cans, change an outdoor light bulb, hose bird poop off your house, clean out the bird feeders…you get the idea. There’s always something to do in your outside quarters. Get one or two of those tasks handled this week. ____ Sidewalk chalk the driveway. Whether you have kids or not, grab some sidewalk chalk and decorate your driveway with motivational messages. ____ Meal plan. This can easily be done outside. Bring your laptop out and search Pinterest. Or carry your cookbooks out and flag pages and recipes you want to make.
