Off the top of my head, I’m thinking joy, jolly, festive, family, traditions, lights, fruitcake, sleigh bells, and shopping at crowded malls. But when I take the time to ponder and look inward, seeking the one word that means the most to me this time of the year, it is peace. It’s something wonderful to give ourselves, as well as a gift we can give to others. Peace is a sense of quiet tranquility. It is the feeling that no matter the challenge, it’s something we can get through. This month’s theme is: Peace Here are your three mini challenges for the month, all based on peace.  ___ Slow down: Christmas is typically a time of hustle and bustle for most people, and can be a stressful time of year. Every day this month, recognize when you’re doing too much or rushing to get everything done. Sit down to mindfully eat a meal at the table savoring every bite. Shop for one Christmas gift at a time, giving it the time and attention it deserves. While power walking is great for exercise, take the time to meander through a holiday craft show or outdoor light display. Slowing down allows you to create a sense of peace in your life.  ___ Declutter and organize one room: When you declutter, you’re giving yourself the gift of peace, focus, and clarity. Don’t worry about every room or area of your life that could use some help. Choose one room, preferably one that you can thoroughly enjoy once the clutter is gone. Choose a room and declutter and organize for 3 minutes a day. Just focus on the fact that every item you say goodbye to and every organized space you make is a gift of peace to yourself and your family. ___ Give yourself a peaceful escape at least once each day: No matter how busy you are, every single person deserves and should enjoy a peaceful escape at least once a day…even if for only 15 or 20 minutes. Give yourself time to enjoy a peaceful activity, like reading a book, enjoying a craft, or writing in your journal. This is a wonderful time to reflect and rejuvenate.
