Set Yourself Up for Success from the Get-Go

When folks set goals and try something new, they are usually excited about
it, so much so that they tend to set initial goals that are way out of reach. If
those initial goals aren’t met, it’s very easy to feel discouraged and to give
up. Be very careful that the initial goals you set for yourself aren’t over-
ambitious…and that they practically guarantee success.
For instance, if you’re going to organize your pantry, set a goal of first
clearing out 10 items, rather than giving the entire pantry a complete
overhaul. Rather than organizing your garage that may have been piling up
clutter for the past 10 years, set a goal to focus on organizing just one
section of it.
If you want to keep going after that initial goal is met, great. By all means
continue. But, if you want to stop at that point…at least you will have
reached your initial goal (SUCCESS!) and tomorrow is another day to reach
another.
Be sure you have rewards designated for each mini goal you hit, and reap
those rewards all throughout your journey.
