Vacuuming doesn’t have to be a grueling task. Here’s how to get it done
quickly!
•
Dust first. If you plan to dust and vacuum on the same day, or in the
same week, dust first. This way, the vacuum will pick up any fallen dust.
•
Don’t wait for it to “look dirty.” Dirt can pile up before it’s noticeable.
Vacuum on a regular schedule, preferably at least once a week.
•
Prep your vacuum: Be sure your vacuum is in good working order.
Replace the bag or clean the dust cap. Replace or wash the filters. If the
bag is too full or the filters are clogged, you’re going to be “moving” the
vacuum, but it’s not going to be picking up any dust or debris.
•
Use it for hard or soft surfaces. You can vacuum your hard surface floors
(like linoleum or wood), as well as your rugs. Use the lowest level that
allows you to push your vacuum smoothly on carpeting…and your brush
attachment or rotating brush for vacuuming hard floors.
•
Use an extension cord. You don’t have to keep plugging and unplugging.
Use an extension cord and get several rooms done at once.
•
Start at the furthest point. Start at the point that’s the furthest away from
you and work your way out of each room.
•
Vacuum in both directions…north and south…and then east and west.
•
Don’t vacuum too fast. When you vacuum slowly, it allows the vacuum to
agitate the carpet before it pulls up any dust or debris.
