Eliminate funky smells…5 easy ways

by Maria Gracia Join our newsletter to be notified when the newest Cleaning Secret is available. There’s nothing that says “yuck!” like an unpleasant smell. First, if you know the source of the smelly odor, clean that source area with vinegar and water. Then, follow one or more of these 5 easy ways to help eliminate funky, lingering odors... Musty Laundry: Is your clean laundry smelling musty when you remove it from the washer? Run an empty cycle with one cup of white vinegar. Then, run another empty cycle with a ½ cup of baking soda. This should do the trick. Food odors in the air: Sometimes, the food you cook can leave behind an odor that lingers for days. To combat it, simmer orange peels and cinnamon sticks in four cups of water on the stove top. Trash can: Is the stink coming from your trash can? Bring the empty can outside. Clean it with your hose and Dawn dish soap. Then, before you put the trash bag in the trash can, place a fragrant fabric dryer sheet inside. Closet stench: Oh no! A stench in the closet? After making your morning coffee, allow the grounds to dry. Then, stuff old, but clean, socks with the dry coffee grounds. Tie the socks closed and hang them in the closet to help neutralize any bad smells. Wet dog: Does your home smell like wet dog? Create a nose-pleaser by soaking cotton balls with your favorite essential oil, and leaving them in bowls around the house. Personally, I love vanilla or lemon extract! Back to Cleaning Secrets Index
