Have you ever looked down stepping out of the shower and get the urge to
hop right back in? “When did this rug get so gross?” you wonder. Bathroom
rugs seem to get dirty in a flash. Here’s the how-to for bathroom rugs…
•
Create a routine - for cleaning your bathroom rug that matches how
often you clean your bathroom. The busier and bigger your family, the
more often you need to clean the bathroom – and ditto, the more often
you need to clean the rug. Just like you wash the towels often and mop
the floor, the rug needs the same amount of attention.
•
Avoid spreading dust and dirt - by carefully rolling the rug up so that you
don’t shake the contents around the bathroom.
•
Shake it! Carry the rug outdoors and shake it well.
•
Read the directions. Read any labels on your rug for cleaning directions.
Most bathroom rugs can be washed. Roll back up and take to the
laundry room.
•
Identify any spots or stains that you need to pre-treat with stain remover.
Apply stain remover according to the package directions.
•
Place the rug in the washer…and wash according to the label on the rug
and following the directions for your particular machine. Some washers
have heavy duty cycles for heavy or bulky loads.
•
Dry the rug. Be sure to read label instructions for drying your rug. Many
rugs with no-slip backing should not go in the dryer. When in doubt,
hang your rug to dry.
•
Buy a second rug. When you whisk one off to the laundry room, pull out
your spare rug from the linen closet and put it down.
