Why a Pool Alarm is a Must for Your Home If you own a home with a pool in it, chances are, you are probably aware of pool alarms. However, pool alarms are not as popular as one might think. Different states have different laws and regulations regarding pool alarms. It would be in your best interests to inform yourself of the law in your state. Undeniably, having a pool alarm in your home is one of the most important investments you can have. Even if you are a family of Olympic swimmers, emergencies can happen any time. Cramps and sudden joint or bone dislocation can happen unexpectedly. This can potentially ruin the whole experience and joy of the leisure activity. Not to mention the fact that drowning, with all its lethal effects, is also a factor you need to take into account. If you have a pool alarm in your home swimming pool, the risk of these accidents having irreversible consequences can be greatly reduced. Emergencies such as pets, children and guests accidentally falling into the pool can be addressed more quickly if you have a pool alarm. As a matter of fact, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, from 2005- 2014, on average 3,536 fatal non-boating related unintentional drownings have occurred every year in the United States alone. In other words, there were about ten deaths per day. On the other hand, there were an additional 332 deaths each year resulting from drowning in boating- related incidents. Continue reading to know more about the importance of having a pool alarm in your home. While you are at it, be sure to take notes! 1) The Law Above All Else Among the many states in America which require pool alarms are Connecticut, New York, Tennessee and California. The law obliges public and private pool owners alike to install alarms because it recognizes the importance of safe swimming. In law, there is what we call “swimming pool liability”. This makes the pool owner liable for accidents happening in their respective pools regardless of whether or not they are public or private. 2) Protection of Your Whole Household As we discussed earlier, pool alarms are one of the best ways to ensure the safety of people swimming in pools. Whether it is a cramp or sudden dislocation, a pool alarm can tackle these emergencies right away by alerting the people nearby that an accident has occurred. If you have pets in your household, you may want to ensure their safety and reduce the risk of drowning by installing a pool alarm. The same holds true for little children who may suddenly slip and fall in the deep water of the pool or accidentally drown in the water. 3) It Gives You Peace of Mind Having a pool alarm gives you a sense of security that at the very least, when an accident happens, you will be alerted and will be made aware of what is happening. Accidents happen and they happen during the most unexpected moments. These inevitable unfortunate events can be somewhat mitigated by early prevention and early detection.
