Moving Home? Use This Checklist If you're moving home, you're probably already aware of how stressful it can be. There's so much to think about. Thankfully, we've got you covered. While it's not uncommon to forget something simple when you've got so much going on, hopefully these tips can keep you on the right track. 1. Make sure you've got everything boxed well in advance Lots of people make the mistake of packing everything into boxes at the last minute. Don't be one of them. Make sure you've got nearly everything boxed days, if not weeks in advance. That way you'll avoid any last minute surprises, like running out of boxes, or realizing you've got too much stuff. You might not want to move everything to your new home, so could also consider storage units. But either way, by packing, you'll know how much stuff you've got to move, that way you'll know how many removal vans you should need along with whether your new property has got enough space. Simply leave only the items you need on the day of the move until last, and box everything else way in advance. 2. Get a quality removal specialist Make sure you do some research and find the best quality removalist in your area. Check for ones with good references and recommendations, and who have the right experience moving your sort of goods. Ask for competitive quotes and check how long the move will take. The right furniture removalist can make a big difference. 3. Consider a trial run You might want to rehearse the move, or at least plan it out carefully. Drive over to the new home at the right time and make sure any issues are sorted with access. 4. Introduce yourself to your new neighbors This is an important first step, and it's a great way to get settled into your new home properly. Good neighbors can make a huge difference to your quality of life, and they can help with a wide range of things. Try inviting a few around after you've moved in, so that you can get the ball rolling with new friendships. 5. Make sure you've notified people on your new address This is important for both friends as well as official entities. Make sure your bank statements aren't getting sent to your old address. You can set a forwarding service if you have to. You'll also want everyone you know to be aware of the new address so they don't turn up at the wrong place or send cards to your old home. 6. Get your new utilities switched on (and your old ones turned off) You'll need water and electricity as soon as you move, so get this paid for and sorted in advance. And make sure you aren't paying for your old bills any more than you should. 7. Join the right clubs and services in your new area Don't ignore the opportunities your new surroundings might have. Get involved in things that you enjoy, so you can start building your new life in your new area.
