Keeping Your Garden Space in Order This Summer As summer approaches, many of us are looking forward to spending more time enjoying our backyard. After all, being outdoors is good for our mental and physical health, helping to keep our stress levels down and our spirits up. However, it can be tough to relax in an outdoor space that feels cramped and cluttered. This summer, you can make the most out of your garden by keeping it clean and organized. Here are some tips on how you can keep your outdoor space in order as you spend time with family, entertain friends, and enjoy some “me time” this summer. Trim the Lawn One of the most effective ways of maintaining a clean home and garden is to mow the lawn regularly. How often you trim will depend on the variety of grass you have, how often you water it, and how fast it grows. As a general rule of thumb, you should aim to mow your lawn once every one to two weeks for best results. Any tough-to-reach areas, including along fence lines, around rocks, and in corners, may require a weed whacker. Regular mowing does much more than just keep the grass looking tidy. Each time you trim the lawn, you remove dead or decaying growth and allow young, green shoots to thrive. You also eliminate the habitat of common pests such as fleas, ticks, and rodents, all of which can be vectors for disease. Store Loose Toys and Tools Even if you have neatly trimmed grass, your yard won’t look clean unless you put away all tools, toys, and other outdoor gear when not in use. If you have patio furniture, storing cushions and blankets can keep them free of mold and weather damage. It’s a good idea to invest in outdoor storage solutions such as sheds and deck boxes to control clutter in your yard. If you do your own gardening, you may want to think about creating a mobile gardening station in which to store your tools for ease of access throughout the entirety of your yard. With summer fast approaching, now is the ideal time to get your garden in order. By keeping your outdoor space clean and well organized, you can ensure that your garden looks its best throughout the summer months. Trimming the lawn and storing lawn tools, toys, and other gear can help to keep your yard safe and clean as you enjoy warm nights with friends and family.
