How to Get Your Florida CAM License In most organized communities there is some sort of organizational structure like a Homeowners Association (HOA) or a Community Association Manager. These are the people who help to keep things in your neighborhood or building running smoothly. They take care of resident issues, hiring contractors for repairs and maintenance and enforce any HOA regulations. Any kind of community like a condo development, apartment building or RV resort can benefit from professional guidance and management. Depending on the size of a community, a Community Association Manager (CAM) can fill a full-time schedule with their responsibilities. It’s a great job for anyone with a background in real estate. If you are interested in applying to be a CAM where you live, you will have to get your Florida CAM License. It is a mandatory certification for most HOAs, and can mean all the difference in your potential salary. We have listed the necessary steps that you will need to take to get your Community Association Management certification. State Application Each state will have its own version of the CAM application. You can apply online or print off a paper copy of the form by visiting the Department of Business and Professional Regulations website for the office in your area. You must be at least 18 years old to apply. The application cost is usually less than $300. You will need to provide your basic personal information as well as a current copy of your electronic fingerprints. This will allow the state to do a full background check. To obtain your electronic fingerprints contact 887-235-8232 for an appointment at your nearest office. CAM License Course Each applicant is required in all states to complete a minimum of 18 hours of in-class instruction before writing the State Exam. You will learn the financial, practical and management aspects that are required of a Community Manager. Find out the secrets to running a happy and successful community on your own. Gain insight on how to set up your community to run smoothly with everyone's interest in mind. Once you have finished your course, you will have to complete the State Exam within one year. The course cost includes all materials and examination costs. Once your course is completed successfully, you will submit your Course Completion Certificate to the state board for review. Approval can take up to 30 days. State CAM Exam Upon state approval, you will receive an “Authorization to Test” email containing your approval and your Candidate number. You will have to arrange an appointment for your test online at PearsonVue.com. The exam itself consists of 100 multiple choice questions and a passing score is 75%. If you pass the State Exam, your CAM License will be issued by your state. Processing times vary from state to state, but you should expect up to 6 weeks to receive your official licensing paperwork.
