Organizing Your Life: Tips for Decluttering Your Work Area There's no denying it — cleaning and decluttering homes is so in right now. With organizing experts like Marie Kondo capturing hearts and conquering messes, we are surely in a new age of cleaning mania today. Whether you are a home-based worker or whether you are still a student, organizing and keeping your workspace or work area at home tidy is of utmost importance. A study conducted by Harvard University shows that a clutter-free, organized, and clean workspace helps increase focus, productivity, profitability, and boost morale. It's also been proven to decrease idle time, absenteeism, and work-related stress. With these benefits and advantages in mind, cleaning and decluttering your workspace should now be a top priority. Follow these effective and efficient tips to help you declutter your life, figuratively and literally! Tip #1: Have Organizer Bins Nearby One of the primary causes of cluttering is having no place to store or put away your things. In this case, it is advisable to have at least three big bins nearby: Donate, Fix, and Store. Needless to say, you should also have a bin for garbage disposal. Below are some tips on how to maintain these organizer bins: Donate: This is a bin where you can put useful things you do not use anymore or things you are willing to part ways with. Make sure that the things you put here are still useful and beneficial for the person or group who will be receiving them. Fix: The things you put inside this bin should be things which are still fixable or repairable. Be careful not to put things which are effectively trash in here! Store: You can put things here which are ripe for storage. Shipping those things that you do not have immediate use for to your vacation house is a great way to extend the usefulness of your items. This keeps your main and primary workspace or house with minimal clutter. Otherwise, you can rent a storage locker for those items you're not quite ready to part with yet. Tip #2: Organize Your Office Supplies The key is to organize your office supplies based on how often you use them. For things you use almost every day, keep them near your desk where you can easily reach them without having to stand up. On the other hand, for things you do not frequently use but are essential to your work, you may keep them safely stored and out of the way by placing them inside a drawer. By doing this, you will avoid unnecessarily cluttering your desk or workspace with things you have no immediate use for. This will help you maintain a cleaner and wider surface to work on. Tip #3: Maintain A Clean Flat Surface On Your Desk Making room for a clean and clear flat surface on your desk will encourage productivity. This will also make things more accessible and easier to do. For example, having a clear surface on your desk will make it easier for you to sign important documents. Doing this will also avoid a situation where the important document gets mixed up with the non-important ones. Save yourself from the frustration and time-consuming chore of looking through all your stuff just to find an important document!
